The windows sbs pop3 connector is not running

Since the pop3connector was not able to deliver the mail, and does not know if the mail is safe to delete, it leaves the mail on the POP3 server. If there are 5 of these messages in your POP3 mailbox, then there will be 5 "protocol errors" in the pop3connector's SMTP session, which hits the limit, and Exchange will end the session with a transient error 4xx.

When this happens, the pop3connector recognizes that the error is transient, and will retry again at the next scheduled download period.

But since those 5 malformed messages are still in the POP3 mailbox, the same thing will continue to happen, with no "forward progress" being made.

In most occasions, as a resolution, you can configure the "DefaultDomain" property to match your local domain name on the "Sharepoint Fax Receive Connector". This will append the SMTP domain name on email with an incomplete return path as described above. To accomplish this, run the following command :. However, this might not help with all the situations leading up to this situation. Sometimes the invalid header found on the e-mail is not recoverable.

Follow the alternate workaround to get mail flowing again if that is the case. I get only the same information in the Event Viewer that Rick Solomon got. See the log posted below.

I don't know Rick Solomon's configuration, but mine may have been slightly more complex than an out of the box configuration. This has no effect since the inside SMTP port remains port Before I fixed my issue by adding the appropriate Authoritative Accepted Domain, If I used one of those original users that appear in the POP3 Connector drop down list, I ccould log on to OWA and send messages inside and outside the domain, and I could recieve email from inside the domain but not outside since that uses the POP3 connector.

So Exchange transport was apparently working properly to send and recieve email. But the POP3 Connector appeared to not be working. The event log before the fix shows that an SMTP error occurred.

AsyncConn[ pop. AsyncConn[ localhost ] Connecting to 'localhost' on port Downloading message 1 of 1. AsyncConn[ localhost ] Connection to 'localhost' closed. AsyncConn[ mail. Is there no other way to populate this list of assignable Exchange Mailbox users? Registry, Attribute Editor, Group Membership? The standard SBS users are all but completely not used in my scenario!

Moving right along here.. The Add User Role also changed group memberships and possibly other attributes i haven't compared yet Both ways populated the user lists and the POP3 Connector Drop down list.

Both users can now recieve POP3 Connector email. Join Date Jun Posts 5. Answered by:. Archived Forums. Small Business Server. Read Sticky Post at the top of the forum. Sign in to vote. Any thoughts on why it doews not automatically start? John Lenz. Friday, March 11, PM. At re-boot, it started fine John Lenz. Tuesday, March 15, PM. Try changing the service startup type from "Automatic" to "Automatic Delayed Start ". It may be that one of the services on which it is dependent probably Exchange is a not firing up as quickly as it should and the POP connector service fails at that time.
