If your project is using Global Distribution, note that your title and contributors must match the title and contributors entered previously.
All other text can be added here. Each theme includes a space for a unique image. You can upload that image after selecting your theme. Finally, we display the cover for review. Be sure your cover meets the listed requirements. Once your cover PDF is uploaded, we perform a print-ready check. The first step is to download the custom cover template. This template includes your front and back cover plus the spine sized to match your paper selection and page count. The Canva powered cover designer will open in a new window.
Be sure your browser allows cookies. You might not want the Header text on these pages either. You can also use the [None] Master Page to completely blank the formatting on a page. The same goes for the header text. Next up, we need to define some Paragraph Styles.
Just right-click any existing style to edit or create a new one. I could fill an entire blog post going through these different Paragraph options, so you should click through each of the options on the left and learn a little more about them.
You can change a specific paragraph using these controls they are very similar to the Word ribbon controls and with a right-click on the Paragraph Style , you can update that Style to match your changes, filtering the change down to all other text using that style. A right-click and selecting Redefine Style updates the style to match the text. All the prep work is done. Okay, so we have our Masters set. I will add the Adventure Start Master to the second and third pages, ignoring the very first page for now.
With the Adventure Start Master added, we must free it up for editing. Right-click with the pages selected and Override all Master Page items so we can edit the text.
The next step is adding the actual text. To do this, we need to right-click again on Page 3 and choose Insert Pages :. This will pull up a menu and allow us to add several pages and apply Master Page formatting to those new pages. Be sure to review all four items in this window. We started with 5 total pages the first blank page, the two pages from our Adventure Start Master and the two pages from our 1-Adventure Master , now we have 30 total pages!
We are working in spreads so add a [None] Master Page for page 31, then add two more pages with the Adventure Start Master , again unlocking them and editing the title to the second Adventure. Finally, we add two more page using 2-Adventure , the template for our second Adventure and paste the contents in.
Doing this means we have distinct Master Page control over each chapter Adventure and we can easily paste in all of our content. It probably should, especially the Front Matter, but this is self-publishing and you are the boss. If your book benefits from a lack of these elements by all means, take the liberties. Except for the Copyright Notice. This is a standard setup and follows the suggested ordering I listed above. The Front Matter is diverse, so no need to make a strict design.
Then I set my options to include seven pages, before page 1, with the Master reference being my Front Matter Master Page. I went through basically the same process for the Back Matter, scrolling to my final page and adding additional pages, this time using my Back Matter Master Page.
One thing to pay attention to when adding Back Matter is the page count. My document before adding the Back Matter contained pages. I want to have a quantity divisible by four bookmaking best practices and necessary if I want to put my book into a retail distribution service. So, I will add five pages of back matter to even the page count at When you upload your PDF, our system checks the page size and uses that to assign the size for your book.
And we do offer bulk discounting! Hello D. Stieben It sounds as if you are creating a Standard Paperback, which indeed has a higher minimum page count than the Premium paperback format. Thank you for bringing this discrepancy to my attention, I will update the templates to include min and max page counts for both paperback formats. Until then, you can view the min and max page counts on the book builder page.
Again, I apologize for any confusion created by this oversight. It says the size I want can be 32 pages, which is just a bit outside my length but is doable. Do not want to add content, this is a stand alone work, not looking to add anything to it.
So which is right 32, or If you qualify to do it please tell me the process. Ever blessings. Hi, I am starting to use your 8. I inserted a word copy of my book. The question is,I have a few blank pages in the template. Will it be possible to delete these later for a contiguous flow? Thanks, Pete. After reading all these comments, I would prefer to have Lulu to adapt my manuscript to ebook so I do not have to work on these details. And I see a template for a paperback cover pocket sized book, but not hard cover.
I feel that paperback will bend and fold too easily in a pocket or purse. When do you believe this will be an option at Lulu? Many thank yous for your services to the self-publishing world! Hello, Could you help me? Every time I finish uploading my book a blank page is inserted. I revised several times and ended up always with a blank page inside my book. Hi there, The provided links seem broken?
Also it looks like these templates are for ms word. Would you have those templates available? Many thanks! Dear Sir. Madam, I am interested in publishing my reworked thesis with Lulu but unsure of the costs involved nor the process involved. Can someone please guide me. Many thanks, Solomon. That prevents me from using it. Thank you for updating the templates. I have self published on another platform and I am getting ready to publish here. Templates always save time.
Thank you again for the updates. I am trying to assess the reasons for the changes in the header, footer, margin and gutter dimensions compared to the old template, which is still included in the zip files, and what the general opinion of them is compared to the old dimensions? If anybody has an opinion or knows of a review, Id like to hear of it at dollarability at gmaail dot com.
These things are a pain in the ass to modify.
